Atlantic & Mediterranean Coastal Water and Soil Resilience Initiative DREVO
International Initiative for Strengthening the Resilience of Coastal Waters and Soils in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Regions
International Platform for Cooperation on Water Security, Coastal Ecosystem Restoration and Climate Resilience
Vision
Atlantic & Mediterranean Coastal Water and Soil Resilience Initiative (AMCWSRI)— is a long-term international initiative aimed at strengthening water security, restoring coastal ecosystems, regenerating soils, developing climate-resilient agriculture and promoting sustainable economic development in the countries of the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions.
The initiative brings together governments, universities, research institutes, agricultural cooperatives, local communities, the private sector, and international partners to develop practical, scalable solutions to one of the most important challenges of the 21st century:water shortages, soil degradation and climate change.
Mission
Transform the most vulnerable coastal areas into resilient natural and economic systems through the integration of renewable energy, sustainable freshwater production, soil restoration, regeneration of natural ecosystems, and the introduction of modern agricultural technologies.
Strategic goals
The initiative aims to:
strengthening regional water security;
restoration of degraded coastal ecosystems;
combating desertification and soil degradation;
development of sustainable agriculture and ensuring food security;
increasing resilience to climate change;
accelerating the implementation of renewable energy sources;
development of scientific research and technological innovation;
support for rural areas and local economies;
expanding international cooperation and knowledge exchange.
Main directions
1. Water security
solar and renewable seawater desalination;
reuse of purified water;
rainwater collection;
collection of moisture from fog;
replenishment of groundwater reserves;
intelligent water resources management systems.
2. Soil restoration
compost production;
application of biochar;
development of beneficial soil microflora;
restoration of organic matter;
erosion control;
moisture accumulation technologies;
regenerative agriculture.
3. Restoration of coastal areas
sand dune stabilization;
restoration of natural coastal vegetation;
creation of green ecological corridors;
protective forest belts;
restoration of biodiversity;
natural methods of coastal protection.
4. Climate-resilient agriculture
highly efficient irrigation;
agroforestry;
growing drought-resistant crops;
modern greenhouse complexes;
sustainable livestock farming;
demonstration farms.
5. Renewable energy
